The Collingwood Basketball Association\u2019s signature Youth Development Program has taken a major step forward with the appointment of respected former NBL championship player and coach, Darren Perry, to the role of Head Coach.<\/p>\n

Perry comes to Collingwood after a professional playing career spanning more than 250 games over 10 years in the NBL, including with the 1987 Brisbane Bullets and 1992 South East Melbourne Magic championship teams. His extensive and enviable decade-long coaching track record includes stints as Head Coach of Australia\u2019s U19 Emus in the FIBA World Cup and being named Basketball Victoria\u2019s Coach of the Year in 2017. Perry most recently spent several years coaching the Dandenong Rangers NBL1 Senior Men\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

Aimed at participants aged 10-22, the Youth Development Program offers players in Melbourne\u2019s city and inner-north from a range of socio-economic and diverse backgrounds the opportunity to play basketball, be supported in their education, develop their life skills, find pathways for their future and contribute to the positive growth of their communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Youth Development Program is a great example of the valuable work that the Collingwood Basketball Association does and we\u2019re thrilled to have Darren on board to strengthen this innovative and important program,\u201d said Collingwood Basketball Association President, Julia Jamieson.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis work will be a terrific boost to both our program participants and current coaching staff, as Darren will help to lift their skill levels while reinforcing the program\u2019s core values of personal development and community contribution along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to working with the team at Collingwood ,\u201d said Perry, who will take up his new role in late May.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club has a great vision for building an environment where young players can get a start in basketball, develop as a player and a person through their journey and have the opportunity to find a future in the game as a high level player or coach, all while enjoying a strong sense of community and positive connection to Collingwood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collingwood Basketball Association is a not-for-profit community based basketball club featuring a variety of competitions and programs played under the Collingwood All Stars banner. With a strong community focus and with essential support from many volunteers, our association has been recognised by sporting and government bodies for its inclusion and multiculturalism.<\/p>\n
